Biography
Onyinyechukwu Chidi-Ogbolu is a media scholar from Lagos, Nigeria. Her research interests lie primarily in fan studies and her other interests are most often explored within that realm. She is interested in transcultural fandoms and the factors that lead to Nigerian fandom of non-Nigerian media objects. As a member of multiple transcultural fandoms, of which other Nigerians are plentiful, she seeks to explore the motivations behind their (and her own) presence in them. She is also interested in the role race, and interpretations of race, plays in this phenomenon.
Outside of academia, she is very interested in audience analytics within the advertising industry. Like her interest in fan studies, it is driven by the desire to know why people are the way they are and how it makes them like what they like.
She is an avid music lover, big Bollywood fan (#SRK4life), C-drama enjoyer, romance/thriller reader and language learner. Her goal is to be conversational in 7 languages (counting English) by the age of 25. Her choices of languages to learn are often inspired by her transcultural fandom interests.
Onyinyechukwu received her Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications from Alcorn State University and her Master of Arts in Cinema and Media Studies from the University of Southern California.
