Biography
My research focuses on historical and material approaches to film and media in the People’s Republic of China, with an emphasis on how analogue and digital media technologies engage with socialist and post-socialist politics and cultures. I am also interested in the material relationship between media technologies and environments.
My MA dissertation, titled 3-D Revolution Under the Red Flag: Chinese Stereoscopic Cinema and Socialist Technological Modernization, brought together the historical approach to modern Chinese cinema and material perspectives from Science and Technology Studies. The project situated the Chinese 3D technologies in the historical movements and explored cinema’s complex role in developing a new technological form of socialist modernity.
Before coming to IU, I received my Bachelor of Arts in Advertising at Peking University, China, and my Master of Arts in Film Studies at University College London, United Kingdom.
